Opinion: Rating the West Ham players from a history-defining victory

West Ham have reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League following a 2-1 aggregate victory over Sevilla.

The Hammers overcame their La Liga opposition 2-0 after extra time at the London Stadium to qualify for the last eight having been beaten 1-0 in Spain.

Goals from Tomas Soucek and the man of the moment Andriy Yarmolenko sent David Moyes’ side through.

Joining West Ham in the next round are Rangers, Atalanta, Braga, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon, RB Leipzig and Barcelona.

Whilst the goalscorers will take many of the plaudits, the Irons’ were superb to a man with some performing at the very top of their game.

Here’s how we rated the players on show…

READ WEST HAM VERDICT

XI: Alphonse Areola 8; Ben Johnson 7, Craig Dawson 8, Kurt Zouma 8, Aaron Cresswell 7; Declan Rice 9, Tomas Soucek 8; Pablo Fornals 8, Manuel Lanzini 7, Said Benrahma 7; Michail Antonio 8.

Subs: Andriy Yarmolenko 7, Issa Diop NA, Ryan Fredericks NA.

This was Declan Rice at his very, very best. Dominant in midfield and always available in attacking situations, the 23-year-old was sublime from start to finish.

What a night!

The draw for the next round will take place at midday today (March 18).

matchday.
