West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been labelled as ‘world class’ following an astonishing save in the victory over Aston Villa.
The 36-year-old denied Aston Villa striker Danny Ings as the Hammers overcame their visitors 2-1 at the London Stadium.
Putting together a team of the week for BBC Sport, Garth Crooks was full of praise for the experienced Polish ace.
It was a world-class save. The shot came from Danny Ings on the turn and may have had a slight deflection on its way to goal but that didn’t seem to deter Fabianski, who pushed what seemed like an impossible stop onto the post before the ball rebounded into his arms. The save set up an extraordinary win for the Hammers on what turned out to be an emotional afternoon for everyone at the London Stadium. Little did we know then that Yarmolenko was destined to steal the show but it was Fabianski who set the whole thing up.
Unsurprisingly, Crooks also found room for Andriy Yarmolenko in the side, describing the goal as ‘magical’ in the circumstances.

Whilst both players have come up with the goods at various points in their West Ham careers, these moments have been few and far between in more recent times.
Despite advancing years and the presence of Alphonse Areola on the bench, Fabianski continues to defy the odds as David Moyes’ first-choice stopper.
Soon to be 37, the Pole is showing no signs of stopping and could yet remain as number one for next season.
