Pundit says West Ham will be delighted by ‘massive’ Jarrod Bowen injury news

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan believes West Ham will be delighted by the ‘massive’ injury news on Jarrod Bowen.

The 25-year-old limped off in the defeat against Liverpool with what appeared to be a serious heel issue.

However, it was confirmed by the club that ‘no significant damage’ had been suffered and the Englishman, therefore, is unlikely to be sidelined for a prolonged period.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan suggested that the Hammers and England will be over the moon with the outcome.

It’s massive for them. He’s been brilliant – this season especially. The improvement he’s shown is just a testament to the hard work he’s been putting in. It’s not just West Ham who will be relieved, it’s Gareth Southgate too – because he is surely on the verge of an England call-up.

So far this season Bowen has scored 12 times and provided 11 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Despite the positive prognosis, it remains unlikely that David Moyes will have the winger available for the meeting with Sevilla in Spain.

Given how much pain Bowen appeared to be in at Anfield, any prompt return would be welcomed by West Ham supporters.

Hopefully, the £31.5million valued ace can make a comeback for the second-leg at the latest and perhaps stay in contention for the upcoming England meeting with Switzerland.

In-line for a first international call up due to a stellar season, it would be a cruel blow should injury see the former Hull City man miss out.

matchday.
