OTD: West Ham beat Southampton 2-0 in EPL encounter

On this day (March 8) in 2000, West Ham overcame Southampton 2-0 at Upton Park.

Goals from Paulo Wanchope and Trevor Sinclair were enough to see off the Saints in East London on this occasion.

Also involved for West Ham were Rio Ferdinand, Stuart Pearce and Frank Lampard.

The Hammers were on the crest of a wave at the time under Harry Redknapp and another victory here kept fading European aspirations alive.

However, those dreams weren’t to be as the Irons’ finished the Premier League season in ninth.
