Virals: West Ham have ‘joined the chase’ to sign EFL star Lewis O’Brien

West Ham have reportedly ‘joined the chase’ to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

The Hammers are the latest club to show an interest in the 23-year-old as Crystal Palace, Wolves, Burnley and Norwich City all remain keen.

This comes following a failed switch to Premier League rivals Leeds United last summer.

Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk the Irons are keen on the Englishman this summer.

The report claims that O’Brien – who has earned an impressive 7.01 average Sofascore rating in 30 Championship outings this term – also has a ‘release clause worth around £12million’ that many sides would be willing to activate.

This season the man once described as ‘very special’ by Carlos Corberan has scored twice and provided two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £2.7million and under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), signing O’Brien for the mooted £12million fee would still be a worthwhile venture.

Already an experienced operator in English football, the vastly versatile star would be a superb addition to David Moyes’ squad.

Boasting a host of midfield attributes, this is a deal that is definitely worth pursuing in the summer as Mark Noble reaches the end of a stellar career in East London.

matchday.
