OTD: West Ham beat Nottingham Forest in Premier League clash

On this day (February 3) in 1996, West Ham beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at Upton Park.

The Hammers sealed all three points thanks to a 19th-minute goal from Australian midfielder Robbie Slater.

Harry Redknapp’s side on the day contained the likes of Tony Cottee, Steve Potts and Julian Dicks.

The occasion also saw loan signing Dani make a debut in Claret and Blue having arrived on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

West Ham ended the 1995/96 Premier League campaign in 10th position – one place below opponents Nottingham Forest.

Unsurprisingnly, it was Cottee and Dicks who shared the honour of top league goalscorer for the Irons with 10 strikes each.

Prior to David Moyes’ second spell in charge in East London, these may have been described as the halcyon days at the club.

Now the Scot has instilled a whole new level of belief in the Hammers and the sky would appear to be the limit.

Remaining in the present day, West Ham will be guarding against an old school FA Cup shock when Moyes’ men visit Aggborough Stadium to face National League North side Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.

matchday.
