Virals: Journalist dismisses prospect of West Ham signing Ivan Toney

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney for some time now.

The Hammers were tipped to resolve their centre-forward crisis with a move for the 25-year-old as the Bees were moving steadfastly towards promotion to the Premier League.

Since arriving in the top flight Toney has continued to produce the goods and the Irons are still in need of attacking reinforcements.

However, when asked on Twitter who David Moyes should be looking at in the January transfer window, journalist Tom Clark suggested the Brentford man would be the ideal candidate – albeit with a weighty caveat.

Described as ‘special’ by Thomas Frank, the Northampton-born striker has proved to be more than a match for the top-flight’s best defenders.

So far this season Toney has scored three times and registered another three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions.

Although things are currently rosy at the London Stadium, the looming fear over a Michail Antonio injury remains.

The Jamaican forward is integral to Moyes’ side and without him, the next cab off the rank is either a converted option or a youngster.

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), it would likely take the entire £40million mooted budget to land Toney – although it would be money well spent.
