West Ham striker Michail Antonio has become accustomed to receiving plaudits in recent months following an eye-catching transformation.
Often viewed upon as a handy utility man in previous guises, the 31-year-old has now established himself as one of the top frontmen in the top flight.
The ace was once again in top form over the weekend as David Moyes’ side secured a 2-1 win at Elland Road against Leeds United.
Former Premier League forward Garth Crooks has written in his weekly BBC column that Antonio was indeed the star of the show for the Hammers.
The ball from Antonio for Pablo Fornals earlier in West Ham’s game against Leeds was just brilliant but his finish was indicative of a striker on top of his game. He might have been player of the month for August but he was certainly man of the match against Leeds. The Jamaica international plays a very physical game but in front of goal, there is also a touch of class as well. When I first saw Antonio play he was like a bull in a china shop. Now he looks like a match-winner. I suppose that’s what happens when you work at your game.
Overall, Antonio produced six shots, four key passes and created one big chance prior to scoring the winner in an 8.60 rated display (Sofascore).
Joint top of the Premier League scoring charts, the recently capped Jamaican now has five goals and three assists in five top-flight outings.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
West Ham certainly have a striker at the very top of his game right now.
Antonio has developed rapidly under David Moyes and is currently enjoying the form of his life in a side built around his strengths.
Irons’ fans will be hopeful the injuries that have plagued their talisman in previous seasons can stay away and allow their ace to enjoy a full campaign.
