Former Liverpool and Wales striker Dean Saunders has slammed West Ham target, Matheus Pereira, for a statement on social media this week.

This comes after the West Brom star took to Twitter to set the record straight regarding a potential summer move following comments from manager Valerien Ismael.

The 25-year-old Brazilian is wanted by the Hammers but could reportedly be set to make a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal instead.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Saunders has lamented the forward.

If you want to leave, put it in writing. Obviously, the player can’t put it in writing because he loses money and he loses the fans’ respect. I’ve seen Pereira’s letter, basically, he should just put a line through it and say ‘look I’m going for the money’.The ‘fair and correct manner’ is you put it in writing to the club – ‘I want to leave the club’ and the club go ‘Ok we’ll put you up for sale’ or they say ‘no you’ve got a contract, you’re staying here’. But I think the manager has jumped the gun a little bit by saying (he’s not committed), he’s also devaluing him. And at the end of the day they’re trying to get the best price for him.

Despite suffering relegation with the Baggies last term, Pereira scored 11 times and registered six assists in 33 Premier League outings.

Hopes were raised as the versatile Brazilian spoke out as a transfer seemed almost certain to be in the offing.

However, it would seem a move to east London isn’t on the cards and David Moyes and co will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements

Whilst the outspoken Saunders does make some salient points, airing dirty laundry for all to see is never a good look.
