Arsenal join race to re-sign West Ham defender Mavropanos

Konstantios Mavropanos is reportedly attracting interest from Premier League clubs and sides across Europe, including former club Arsenal.

Sky Sports News reports that the West Ham United centre-back has admirers across the market, with Arsenal among the clubs aware of his situation.

A return to north London would not look straightforward. Arsenal are well stocked at right centre-back, but Mavropanos’ form and availability have still put him back on their radar.

Mavropanos previously played for Arsenal before leaving permanently for Stuttgart in 2022. West Ham then signed him from the Bundesliga in 2023, with the Greek defender becoming an important figure in east London.

ReadWestHam recently covered how Mavropanos’ future had already become one of West Ham’s major summer decisions, and this latest interest only sharpens the issue.

West Ham Face Another Defensive Decision

Mavropanos, 28, was one of West Ham’s stronger performers during a difficult season. His aerial strength, recovery defending and threat from set-pieces made him one of the squad’s more saleable assets.

That is the problem for Nuno Espirito Santo. West Ham need funds for the rebuild, but they also need a defence strong enough to handle a 46-game Championship campaign.

Premier League interest will test the club’s stance. A move abroad could also suit Mavropanos if he wants top-flight football after West Ham’s relegation.

Arsenal’s interest adds profile to the story, but squad space may be the issue there. They already have depth in the right-sided centre-back role.

For West Ham, the message should stay simple. Mavropanos cannot leave cheaply.

If clubs across Europe want him, West Ham need to turn that competition into a proper fee.
