West Ham United and FC Koln have reportedly agreed the basis of a loan deal for Edson Alvarez.
Sky Sport Germany reports that Koln are pushing to sign the Mexico international this summer.
The deal still depends on Alvarez. His salary remains the main issue, and he would need to take a pay cut to join the Bundesliga club.
Alvarez also has offers from Turkey, which gives him another option after last season’s spell at Fenerbahce.
West Ham now have a possible route to move on a senior midfielder. ReadWestHam recently covered how Alvarez returned to West Ham after Mexico’s World Cup exit, with his future becoming one of the clearest squad issues of the summer.
Alvarez Exit Would Reshape West Ham’s Midfield
Alvarez, 28, joined West Ham from Ajax in 2023. He spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, but the Turkish club did not make the move permanent.
Koln’s interest gives West Ham a chance to reduce the uncertainty around his future. It could also help the club clear space in midfield before the new season.
The German club have now reached a club-to-club agreement with West Ham. Alvarez still needs to decide whether the financial terms work for him.
Turkey remains another possible destination, especially after his recent spell there. Koln, though, appear to be pushing hardest at this stage.
Until Alvarez agrees personal terms, the move remains advanced rather than complete.
