West Ham are said to be ‘very hot’ on the heels of Hellas Verona midfielder Antonin Barak this summer.

The Hammers completed their first piece of incoming summer transfer business this week in signing Alphonse Areola and could make Barak the second new arrival.

Irons’ boss David Moyes is expected to strengthen the midfield department having relied heavily upon Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek last season.

According to Italian outlet Larena, as cited by Sport Witness on Twitter, the 26-year-old Czech Republic international could fit the bill.

The report also mentions interest from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt with the Hammers willing to splash £10.2million on the 22 times capped star.

Last season Barak scored seven goals and registered another three assists in 34 Serie A appearances.

This is a puzzling link given that the Czech ace has only recently joined Verona from Udinese.

Somewhat of an eternal loanee during a four-year stint at Udinese, the £12.6million valued ace has completed a permanent switch in July for £5.4million (Transfermarkt).

That’s not to suggest a deal would be impossible to broker and the mooted double your money offer may be enough to pursuade the Italian club.

Predominantly a recognised central midfielder, Barak is equally adept in attacking and defensive roles and would therefore offer plenty to Moyes’ squad.
