West Ham United have agreed to sell Crysencio Summerville to Al Hilal for around £68million after the Saudi Pro League club hijacked Roma’s move.
Summerville is expected to undergo a medical shortly before signing a long-term contract. The transfer has not yet been officially announced, but West Ham have sanctioned his departure after accepting Al Hilal’s superior offer.
Standard Sport reports that Roma had submitted several bids for the winger, while Manchester United also explored the conditions of a possible deal. Al Hilal have now moved ahead of both clubs.
West Ham Summerville sale funds major rebuild
West Ham had been close to accepting a package worth around £42.5million from Roma. ReadWestHam covered the previous position in negotiations with the Italian club before Al Hilal entered the race with a significantly larger proposal.
The £68million agreement represents a substantial profit on the fee of more than £25million paid to sign Summerville from Leeds United in 2024.
The 24-year-old scored five Premier League goals last season before producing two goals and two assists for the Netherlands at the World Cup. His pace and ability to beat defenders would have made him one of Nuno Espírito Santo’s leading attacking players in the Championship.
West Ham have now agreed sales worth a combined £153million for Summerville and Mateus Fernandes. Fernandes joined Tottenham earlier this summer for £85million.
That income gives the Hammers considerable room to strengthen, but losing two of last season’s most consistent performers creates clear gaps. West Ham need a direct winger capable of supporting Jarrod Bowen and producing immediately during the promotion campaign.
Al Hilal’s intervention has secured West Ham a far stronger financial outcome than the proposed Roma deal. Nuno must now receive enough of the money to rebuild his attack before the Championship season begins.
