Freddie Potts has set his sights on becoming a regular for West Ham United as Nuno Espírito Santo prepares his squad for a promotion challenge.
The academy graduate believes his previous Championship experience can help him earn a prominent role following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
“I want to play as much as I can for West Ham this season,” Potts said.
“I want to show that I’ve got the experience in the Championship. Every game is tough, and the stadiums will be different. They’ll be tough and nasty.”
Potts spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Portsmouth, making 37 league appearances during their first season back in the Championship. He had previously impressed with Wycombe Wanderers in League One.

The midfielder featured regularly for West Ham last season after breaking into Nuno’s Premier League side.
However, the 22-year-old now wants to move beyond being a squad option. His experience of the division gives him an advantage over several teammates as West Ham prepare for a demanding 46-game campaign.
A report carrying Potts’ latest comments confirms that the lifelong Hammer is determined to establish himself in the first team rather than seek another loan move.
Potts received more pre-season minutes during the 1-1 draw with Southend United. Nuno introduced him as part of an entirely new XI after 65 minutes at Roots Hall.

West Ham still require midfield additions after Mateus Fernandes’ departure. However, Potts offers a homegrown option who already understands the physical demands and difficult away grounds awaiting the club.
His challenge is now to convince Nuno he deserves to start when the Championship campaign begins.
