West Ham make contact to re-sign Chelsea defender

West Ham United have asked about bringing Axel Disasi back to the London Stadium, but the Chelsea defender does not want to play in the Championship.

The Hammers remain interested in a reunion after Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan under Nuno Espírito Santo.

Jack Rosser reports that West Ham have explored the conditions of another deal. However, the France international wants his next club to compete in a top division.

Chelsea value Disasi at up to £25million and are working to secure a permanent transfer. AC Milan and several French clubs have also shown interest.

West Ham face Axel Disasi transfer disappointment

Disasi has been training separately from Chelsea’s main squad while searching for a new club. His Stamford Bridge future appears limited under Xabi Alonso.

A return to West Ham would have offered Nuno an experienced defender who already understands his system. Disasi also knows the club and would require little time to settle back into the squad.

However, relegation has weakened West Ham’s position. The defender appears unwilling to drop into the Championship despite his previous relationship with the Hammers.

West Ham must now consider alternative centre-backs. ReadWestHam recently reported that the club are considering a £12million move for Leicester defender Ben Nelson.

Nelson offers less Premier League experience but would be younger and significantly cheaper than Disasi. The 22-year-old also has experience of winning promotion from the Championship.

West Ham’s interest in Disasi remains genuine, but the player’s stance makes an agreement unlikely unless his position changes before the window closes.
