West Ham United have offered Konstantinos Mavropanos a new contract as the club attempt to keep their Hammer of the Year for the Championship promotion campaign.
The Hammers want the Greece international to follow captain Jarrod Bowen by committing his immediate future to the club.
The West Ham Way reports that a proposal is now on the table. Mavropanos is expected to decide whether to accept it during the coming weeks.
The proposed deal would reportedly extend his stay and include a significant promotion bonus. An agreed release mechanism could also become active if West Ham fail to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
West Ham push to secure Mavropanos new contract
Mavropanos joined West Ham from Stuttgart on a five-year contract in August 2023, leaving his current terms due to expire in June 2028. His performances last season earned him the 2025/26 Hammer of the Year award.
The defender has attracted interest from clubs in England and across Europe following West Ham’s relegation. Arsenal have been linked with a possible reunion, while German clubs have also monitored his position.
However, West Ham view the 28-year-old as an important figure in their attempt to secure immediate promotion. His experience and physical qualities should make him one of the leading centre-backs in the Championship.
Mavropanos underlined his importance by scoring the equaliser during West Ham’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Southend United. He powered Jarrod Bowen’s corner into the roof of the net shortly before half-time.
Keeping Mavropanos would give Nuno Espírito Santo a proven defensive leader during a demanding 46-game campaign. His acceptance would also provide another important sign that West Ham’s senior players believe in the promotion project.
