West Ham still looking to strengthen three areas this month

Ahead of the January transfer window, plenty of West Ham United fans would have gasped in horror at the thought of the club’s only signing being a back-up goalkeeper with just 10 days left.

That’s where we currently stand though, with Darren Randolph’s £4million return from Middlesbrough and Roberto’s loan move to Alaves the only notable first-team activity so far.

It could change though, with Football Insider claiming West Ham expect to be busy in the late stages of the month and a central midfielder firmly on the radar.

The report adds that the Hammers will also seek to bolster their options at full-back and in attack before next week’s deadline.

In my opinion, it’d be very surprising to see West Ham fail to add to their ranks before the transfer window closes.

Although Mario Husillos was sacked along with Manuel Pellegrini and David Sullivan is once again spearheading transfers, I think at least a midfielder will probably be acquired this month.

Declan Rice is David Moyes’ sole established defensive midfielder, other than Carlos Sanchez, so the Hammers could be one more injury away from disaster.

I believe there are clearly other areas the club must look at too, but the midfield must be seen as a priority and there could be a reason to seriously worry if at least one more signing isn’t made.
