West Ham’s Etheridge bid much lower than widely reported

Now that Darren Randolph’s £4million return to West Ham United has finally been confirmed, any move for Neil Etheridge should now be deemed dead in the water.

Earlier this week, Football Insider claimed West Ham had submitted a £7million bid for the Cardiff City goalkeeper amid uncertainty over Randolph’s fitness.

Now, club insider ExWHUEmployee has revealed the fee was actually substantially lower than the widespread reports believed.

Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast, he stated that the offer was in fact worth around the £4million mark:

They put in a bid for Neil Etheridge. The rumours were that we put in a £7 million bid for him. I don’t think it was anything like that at all. It was roughly £3.5 million, £4 million.

With Randolph’s arrival, the Hammers now have four goalkeeper options so it would make no sense whatsoever to spend more of the budget on another.

I think although the Etheridge interest is likely to dissolve, fans should still expect West Ham to try and add to the squad further this month.

David Moyes is said to still want a new midfielder, with Stoke City’s Joe Allen being regularly mentioned.

Although I believe the club has more areas it must strengthen, January was always going to be a tough time to address all of them.
