West Han United have reportedly entered the race to sign Erick Pulgar from Bologna this summer.
According to claims from Chilean news outlet Canal de Futbol, the Hammers are the latest side to have established an interest in signing the midfielder, who enjoyed an impressive season for both club and country.
Pulgar had a strong campaign in Italy with Bologna, earning him a place in the Chile squad for their Copa America campaign earlier on in the summer.
The 25-year-old was a key player for his national team and turned in some impressive performances in the middle of the park, helping Reinaldo Rueda’s men to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Canal de Futbol, an outlet in Pulgar’s homeland, now claims that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to link up with his compatriot at the London Stadium ahead of next season.
The report states that the midfielder would be signed with the view of replacing Declan Rice, but the Hammers are unlikely to sell their prized asset just weeks before the transfer window slams shut.
However, with Serie A club Sassuolo pushing hard to sign Pedro Obiang from West Ham, a void in the middle of the park may just need to be filled, and Pulgar has seemingly emerged as an option.
Other midfielders who West Ham could target this summer
Meite had a good season at Torino and would provide West Ham with energy, defensive intelligence and efficient passing.
Yokuslu is an underrated player and could be tempted away from Celta Vigo after their poor campaign.
Tousart may be low in the Lyon pecking order following Thiago Mendes’s arrival, so West Ham could sense an opportunity to land the Frenchman.
Phillips had an excellent season with Leeds United, and with the midfielder ready for a Premier League move, he is a man in demand.
