West Ham make £20m bid for Celtic star Moussa Dembele

West Ham’s intrepid transfer column, the Boleyn Insider, has revealed a number of bids have been made by the club early in the transfer window.

It’s no secret that West Ham are chasing strikers this month with Simone Zaza’s future at the club non-existent and Diafra Sakho ruled out until March.

The Boleyn Insider notes that West Ham have made a bid worth £8m for a player that current plies their trade in the Championship. All signs point to Brentford’s Scott Hogan after reports surfaced we would make a move for him.

The 24-year-old has 14 goals this season and is the highest goalscorer in the Championship during the 2016 calendar year (20 goals). Watford are also keen.

A £6m bid has also been made for a Premier League player. Again, if you connect the dots, that player is likely to be Jermain Defoe after reports surfaced a bid was made for the ex-Hammer.

In addition, they state the club have made a mammoth £20m bid, close to the club’s transfer record for a player from Scotland, which has been confirmed by the London Evening Standard as Celtic striker Moussa Dembele.

While there are no immediate Scots that are on our radar worth that sort of cash, Celtic’s Moussa Dembele has been linked with the Hammers in the last 24 hours.

After joining Celtic in the summer on a Bosman transfer from Fulham for a compensation fee of £500,000, Dembele has been a major hit at Celtic Park, scoring 19 goals in 36 appearances so far this season.

The France U21 international is regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in European football and would prove to be a very astute signing for the Hammers, but chances are they’d have to improve on the £20m to persuade Celtic to sell him – if Dembele is the mystery player alluded to by the Boleyn Insider.
