West Ham to match Watford’s bid for Scott Hogan

West Ham to match Watford’s bid for Scott Hogan

West Ham’s never ending search for a striker doesn’t look any closer to coming to a close, but at least they’re sounding out possible targets.

One of those targets is Brentford’s Scott Hogan. The 24-year-old has netted 14 goals in 25 appearances in the Championship this season, making him the third-highest scorer in the division to date.

Slaven Bilic made an unofficial approach for the striker this week but following news that Watford have submitted an £8m offer for the former Rochdale man which will likely be matched by the Hammers, so say the Guardian.

Hogan made a name for himself in Non-League football with the likes of Ashton United, Halifax Town and Hyde FC before returning to the Football League with Rochdale in 2013. He’s drawn comparisons to Jamie Vardy following his rise from the lower reaches of the football pyramid, helped by the fact they both have played for Stocksbridge Park Steels.

With both Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri expected to leave the club this month following dismal loan spells, Hogan would have to come in and pick up the slack considering Diafra Sakho is sidelined until March through injury.
