Martin Olsson confirms summer interest

Norwich City defender Martin Olsson has confirmed that there was interest in him from another club during the summer window.

Olsson was linked with a move to West Ham in August, but a move never materialised. Although, a bid was supposedly rejected by Norwich.

The Swedish defender’s current contract at Norwich expires at the end of the season. This means that he will be able to leave on a Bosman transfer if he does not sign an extension.

It also means that he could sign a pre-contract in January – ahead of a summer move on a free transfer.

Olsson has been in impressive form at left-back so far this season in the Championship – with Norwich currently sitting 2nd in the league at present.

Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press, Olsson confirmed the summer interest, most likely being from the Hammers.

During the summer, there was a club that was looking at me, but it did not happen.

I’m now instead focusing on Norwich so we’ll see what happens in January or in the summer. It may be that I go on a Bosman. We’ll see if they want to give me a new contract, but I have to think of myself as well. There may be no new contract, I will surely have several other clubs as options too.

Although he appears open to the idea of signing a new contract with Norwich, he does seem confident about his prospects if he were to leave.

Slaven Bilic may look to make a second move for the defender in the January window if his contract situation with Norwich continues to stall.
