Aaron Cresswell has been ruled out for up to four months with a knee ligament injury suffered in a heavy challenge during West Ham’s 3-0 friendly win over Karlsruher and now the Hammers are left panicking over his replacement.

The club are currently drawing up a shortlist and are believed to be preparing a move for Charlton standout Morgan Fox – a player the club considered signing two years ago before recruiting Cresswell from Ipswich.

An academy graduate at The Valley, Fox had been subject to an offer from Birmingham to leave Charlton who were relegated to League One last season, but HITC understands a deal has stalled.

One option for the Hammers is to recall Stephen Hendrie from his season-long loan with Blackburn, but the club would rather him stay there and receive first-team minutes throughout the season.

A host of left-backs have been linked with a move to East London since West Ham were dealt the crushing news about Cresswell’s injury lay-off. Former Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner has been touted as a Hammers target, while FC Copenhagen’s Ludwig Augustinsson and Norwich duo Robbie Brady & Martin Olsson have all been linked.
