Mauro Zarate is being lined up for a return to Serie A as Bologna have made a bid for the West Ham playmaker, claims Corriere dello Sport.
The Argentine forward’s role under Slaven Bilic is undefined, but did feature in last week’s win over FC Lusitans, and could be a very important member of the squad.
The 28-year-old was used sparingly under Sam Allardyce, and even less so while on loan at QPR the second half of last season, but the fans are eager to see what he can offer.
Zarate has spent time in Italy with a successful spell at Lazio, but a disappointing loan at Inter Milan resulted in a move back to Velez, where he ended the season as the top goalscorer in the country, and proceeded to join West Ham.
He has been linked with an exit already this summer, with River Plate looking to bring the versatile forward in on a six-month loan.
However, his place in the squad could be under threat, as 22-year-old Al Jazira attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini is expected in London this week to undergo a medical ahead of a season-long loan move.
