On-loan Barcelona midfielder Alex Song is holding out for a big-money move to either Liverpool or Manchester City in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The retired Cameroon international and former Arsenal man has been on loan at West Ham since the start of the season, and enjoyed a great first half to the campaign, but his form has dipped since the turn of the year – coinciding with the form of the team on the whole.
It’s believed that Song has impressed some of the bigger clubs in the Premier League since returning to England, and is hoping one of them, ideally Liverpool or Manchester City, will come and make a play for him in the summer.
Not wanted by Barcelona, Liverpool could make a move for Song to replace the departing Steven Gerrard, who will join the LA Galaxy at the end of the season.
West Ham are covering the majority of Song’s £140,000-a-week wages, which would not be the case next season should he sign on a permanent basis, with a caveat of that deal being for Song to take a major pay-cut, something he may not have to do at a larger club.
