Edson Alvarez to Valencia? West Ham transfer latest

Edson Alvarez, West Ham United

In recent days, the rumour mill has indicated that Edson Álvarez could be set for a West Ham exit, with Valencia as his next potential destination.

According to Spanish sports daily AS, Álvarez’ agent met with Valencia’s sporting director Braulio Vazquez to explore a January transfer.

Given the player’s current status with the Hammers, an impending exit is not unlikely.

The story goes that Tarek Sebiat (European representative for the StayPro agency that works with Álvarez) met Valencia director of football Vázquez at the club’s training ground.

The discussions have put the Mexico international on Valencia’s radar for a potential winter-window move.

Álvarez, 28, has been completely frozen out under Nuno Espírito Santo.

His only appearance this season came in the League Cup against Portsmouth in early August. He has not featured in a single Championship matchday squad, nor is he likely to feature against Swansea City on Saturday.

West Ham expected him to leave in the summer after his return from a loan at Fenerbahçe (where a purchase option was not activated), but no permanent deal materialised.

He remains under contract in east London until 2028.

Priority transfer business for Nils Koppen and West Ham

A six-month loan is viewed as the most realistic structure for any Valencia move.

It would reunite Álvarez with Javier Aguirre, his former Mexico national-team coach who is now in charge at the Mestalla.

Álvarez is understood to be open to a change of scenery, and West Ham could be receptive to a temporary exit, particularly if it includes an option or obligation to buy.

His high wages and lack of involvement make this something of a priority transfer for Nils Koppen and the club.

Whether finances and West Ham’s willingness to sanction a loan align will decide if further talks progress or fail.

This won’t be the last Edson Álvarez transfer speculation that emerges in the coming weeks.
