Nuno Espírito Santo has been lauded for his tactical approach to mastermind West Ham’s win over Swansea on Saturday.
The 1-0 victory in South Wales delivered consecutive wins for the Hammers after the midweek rout over Lincoln, as the team moves up to second place in the Championship table.
Nuno has been praised for how the team was set up against the league leaders, as detailed in this piece for West Ham Way.
“This is the first time we’ve seen ‘Nuno ball’ in full force in the Championship because Swansea have been the first team to try to play us off the park.
“Fair play to them for trying, but they ultimately failed.”
Nuno reacts to Swansea victory
The crux of the article is that the Portuguese coach recognised that his team would have to suffer at times against a very good opponent. They are top of the league for good reason.
It wasn’t always going to be pretty, but it was effective.
West Ham’s workers carried out their instructions and that provided the basis for the victory.
Swansea may have dominated possession, but they couldn’t make the most of it. They didn’t manage a shot on target in a game that they couldn’t impose themselves on.
That’s down to Nuno and West Ham.
Purpose beat possession. Three points for the Hammers!
