“Monster football club” – Lincoln City in bullish mood in preparation for West Ham

Lincoln City vs West Ham isn’t a league fixture that too many Hammers would have had on their radar in the recent past, but it is the current reality.

A relegation from the Premier League and a promotion from League 1 see the clubs go head-to-head for the first time since September 2023.

That was a League Cup tie, with a goal from Tomas Soucek securing the Hammers’ passage to the fourth round.

The Czech star is a man in the spotlight once again after he signed a new contract to stay in East London until 2028.

In preparation for Wednesday’s Championship clash, Imps joint boss Chris Cohen has described West Ham as a “monster football club” in praise of the stature of his next opponent.

At the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Cohen detailed the anticipation for the game:

“I’m sure when the fixtures came out, we were hoping that was going to be the first game of the season. It’s the one that we look for, and it’s come early in the season.

“Obviously, a monster football club that’s just come down from the Premier League, won a European trophy a few years ago.

Lincoln City can beat anyone, including West Ham – Cohen

Cohen is looking for Lincoln to rise to the occasion and bounce back after two consecutive defeats.

He believes the team is capable of so much more, and has stated that they can beat anyone in this league.

Lincoln have won three times on the road this season, but they are yet to record three points at Sincil Bank.

As detailed by Stacey West, Cohen added: “We need to threaten the opponent’s back line, we need to create some chaos in their penalty area, and we want to win games at home.

“We need to win games at home this year if we’re to achieve what our target was at the start of the season, and this is another opportunity to do so.

“As I said to you, our players, on their mettle, at our level, are capable of beating anyone in the league, and that for me includes West Ham. It’s just up to us to help them do that.”
