West Ham United midfielder Tomáš Souček has described the club as “just a perfect match for me” after putting pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at the London Stadium until the summer of 2028.
The 31-year-old Czech Republic international, who was entering the final year of his previous deal, has committed his future to the Championship side following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Souček has made 285 appearances and scored 47 goals since joining from Slavia Prague in January 2020, and was part of the squad that lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023.
Speaking exclusively to the club’s official channels, Souček said: “West Ham United means a lot to me. I’ve been here half my football life, seven years, and it will be more.
“I can say with my heart it’s my home and it’s where I feel so proud of what we’ve done and I believe that we will do even more.
“After signing a new contract, I have a new ambition for myself and for the club. The first is that we want to go straight back to the Premier League, then I want to play and be successful in the Premier League next season.”
Nuno backs “huge figure” Souček
The midfielder recently returned from a five-month absence caused by an ankle ligament injury sustained during the Czech Republic’s World Cup group-stage match against Mexico.
He featured for 45 minutes in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers.
Head coach Nuno Espírito Santo praised Souček as a “huge figure” in the dressing room.
“He is someone that we can always rely on, someone who always competes to his maximum every single day and his professionalism is the perfect example to every young player,” said Nuno.
Recruitment director Nils Koppen confirmed retaining experienced leaders such as Souček had been a priority.
The extension underlines the player’s desire to help drive West Ham’s promotion push and cement his legacy at the club he now calls home.
