West Ham keeper Herrick admits regret over Fulham winner

West Ham goalkeeper Finlay Herrick believes he could have done more to prevent Fulham’s winning goal in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat.

The academy graduate started at London Stadium as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side twice recovered before losing 3–2.

Oscar Bobb settled the tie in the 78th minute. Herrick’s assessment afterwards was that his own response to the decisive effort deserved scrutiny.

Finlay Herrick reflects on Fulham winner

“I think maybe I should do better and help out the team,” Herrick said in his club interview, as reported by Hammers News.

The goalkeeper felt West Ham’s performance merited at least a penalty shootout, pointing to the opportunities they created.

Morato and Pablo had supplied first-half equalisers, but the hosts could not recover again after Bobb’s strike. Our West Ham–Fulham match report covers the five-goal contest.

Herrick’s self-assessment should not obscure the responsibility shared across the team. The winning move followed a loss of possession near West Ham’s penalty area, leaving several moments for Nuno to review.

Herrick also credited goalkeeping coaches Rui Barbosa and Bill Lepine with helping his development over the past year.

He acknowledged that further improvement remains necessary, while explaining how Nuno contributes observations drawn from his own goalkeeping background.

Attention now turns to Saturday’s trip to The Den.

Herrick described his excitement about experiencing the occasion after hearing stories and watching footage of previous meetings.

The West Ham–Millwall rivalry resumes with a 12.30pm Championship kick-off. For the young goalkeeper, it offers another new experience after a demanding evening against Fulham.
