The 29-year-old has now explained how he attempted to keep the dressing room focused while speculation continued around several teammates.
Bowen reveals message to West Ham squad
Speaking about the uncertainty created by the transfer window, Bowen acknowledged players were hearing rumours and information from agents.
However, his message as captain was straightforward.
Bowen said he told the squad to “do everything right whilst you’re still representing this club”, regardless of what might eventually happen with their futures. KUMB’s full report of Bowen’s comments
He also made clear that players who may have wanted transfers had a responsibility to maintain their standards while remaining under contract at West Ham.

Bowen leading West Ham promotion push
Bowen has backed up that message with his own performances.
The captain scored twice in the 3-2 victory at Bolton before opening the scoring as West Ham demolished Wrexham 6-0 on Friday.
That took his tally to six goals this season, with four arriving across his last four appearances.
Read West Ham had already highlighted Bowen’s eight goal contributions in his opening eight appearances before he struck again against Wrexham.
His official post-Bolton interview also underlined how much representing West Ham still means to him, with the club publishing his reaction under the title “There’s no better feeling than scoring goals for this Club”. Watch Bowen’s official West Ham interview
West Ham now turn their attention towards Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Fulham.
Bowen may be one of the senior players considered for a rest, but his influence on this squad clearly extends well beyond his place in Nuno’s starting XI.
