West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez has strongly denied serious allegations made about him in Mexico.
The Mexico international responded after filmmaker Juan José López Ordóñez made allegations concerning Alvarez and members of his wider family.
There has been no finding establishing that Alvarez was involved in any kidnapping, with the midfielder firmly denying the claims.
Edson Alvarez responds to serious allegations
Alvarez has now categorically denied any involvement and criticised the use of his name in coverage of the case.
The 28-year-old said the allegations were unrelated to him and warned that his legal team could take action against anyone spreading false claims, according to talkSPORT’s report of his statement.
It comes during an uncertain period for Alvarez at the London Stadium.
Read West Ham reported earlier this week that Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa are expected to remain until at least January after neither midfielder secured a summer departure.
That leaves Nuno Espirito Santo with another decision over the Mexican’s role as West Ham attempt to build on their encouraging Championship start.
The midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Nuno, while the Hammers have gathered momentum during a demanding run of fixtures.
Supporters can keep track of every upcoming game through Read West Ham’s regularly updated West Ham fixtures and results guide.
Alvarez’s long-term future remains something to watch heading towards January.
For now, however, his attention is firmly on rejecting the allegations made away from football and protecting his reputation.
