Matt Donohue set to referee West Ham vs Wrexham

Matt Donohue is set to take charge of West Ham United’s Championship clash with Wrexham at London Stadium on Friday night.

Current match-official data lists the experienced referee for the 8pm fixture as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side look to continue their impressive run.

West Ham enter the game following three consecutive league victories, while Wrexham are unbeaten in their last three Championship matches.

Donohue has already refereed West Ham during 2026.

Matt Donohue’s recent West Ham record

Donohue was the man in the middle when West Ham beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage in March.

West Ham’s official match-official announcement for that game confirmed Donohue’s appointment and noted that he had already overseen more than 200 professional matches.

Friday will provide a very different challenge following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship.

Donohue has extensive experience at this level.

PlayerStats currently records him averaging more than five cards per Championship fixture during the early stages of 2026/27.

Those numbers come from a small sample and should not be overinterpreted, but disciplinary decisions could become important in what is expected to be a competitive Friday-night contest.

Donohue has also refereed Wrexham

Wrexham are also familiar with Friday’s referee.

Soccerbase records Donohue taking charge of Wrexham’s 1-0 Championship victory at Oxford United in April 2026.

Phil Parkinson’s side travel to east London after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

Their preparations have also been complicated by a Max Cleworth injury scare before facing West Ham, with the defender suffering a reported hamstring problem.

ReadWestHam has also covered the West Ham vs Wrexham head-to-head record ahead of the clubs’ first league meeting since 1981.

The match takes place at London Stadium on Friday 11 September at 8pm BST, with West Ham confirming the date and kick-off time.

Donohue is now set to be the man in the middle as West Ham attempt to extend their three-game Championship winning streak.
