Nuno confirms West Ham injury doubts before Watford clash

Nuno Espírito Santo has confirmed West Ham United have several injury doubts ahead of Saturday’s Championship clash with Watford.

The Hammers still have one final training session before travelling to Vicarage Road, with Nuno admitting not every member of his squad is currently available.

“We have some available, some not available. We have one session left, but we have some players in doubt.”

That gives West Ham a late selection concern before they go in search of their first Championship victory of the season.

Nuno did not name the players who are doubts, meaning West Ham will have to assess their squad after Friday’s final session.

Pablo Felipe has already been sidelined by a calf problem, while Tomáš Souček has been working his way back from the ankle injury he suffered during the World Cup.

The uncertainty could influence Nuno’s team after several younger players impressed during Tuesday’s 4-1 Carabao Cup victory over Southampton.

Lewis Orford and Josh Ajala were among those to make their case for further involvement.

Asked about West Ham’s young players, Nuno backed their development but stressed they still require time.

“They are part of the squad, and have been for a long time. They are improving, and will need time. It’s a process, but we’re behind them. It’s a long season and we’ll need them all.”

Nuno demands improvement from West Ham

West Ham have taken only one point from their opening two Championship fixtures, drawing with Burnley before losing 2-1 at home to Charlton.

Nuno acknowledged the results need to improve.

“We are aware in the league the results aren’t coming. We’ve competed well, but we have to improve.”

The Hammers now head to Watford looking to translate their impressive midweek cup performance into their first league victory of the campaign.
