West Ham target four signings as Nuno identifies priority positions

West Ham United reportedly want four more signings before the transfer window closes, with a winger, centre-back, defensive midfielder and striker identified as priorities.

Nuno Espírito Santo and recruitment chief Nils Koppen are understood to be pushing for further additions following a difficult start to the Championship campaign.

Hammers News reports that club sources have identified four positions requiring attention, with another left-back potentially needed if Malick Diouf leaves.

The EFL confirms that the summer transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1.

West Ham target four signings across key positions

West Ham have already added Joël Piroe, Arne Engels, Manor Solomon, Joel Veltman and Divine Mukasa this summer.

However, the opening Championship draw against Burnley and subsequent home defeat to Charlton Athletic have highlighted continuing problems across the squad.

Nuno admitted he felt under pressure following the defeat to Charlton, with West Ham still searching for their first league victory.

A centre-back is reportedly wanted to strengthen a defence which has conceded four goals across its opening two Championship matches.

A defensive midfielder is also on the shortlist, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Edson Álvarez and Soungoutou Magassa.

Olympiacos have already submitted an €8m offer for Álvarez, potentially leaving Nuno with another midfield vacancy.

Chelsea midfielder Dário Essugo has been linked as a possible option, although no agreement has been confirmed.

Reiss Nelson and Edvin Austbø emerge as winger options

West Ham are also considering another wide player despite Solomon and Mukasa arriving earlier in the window.

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson and Viking’s Edvin Austbø have both been linked, offering different options as the Hammers assess their next move.

The Standard previously reported that West Ham had approached Arsenal over Nelson, while ReadWestHam covered discussions involving Nelson and Ethan Nwaneri.

Claret and Hugh now reports that a Nelson move is largely in place, but West Ham are still weighing up whether to proceed or pursue Austbø instead.

Another striker also remains on the reported shopping list, despite Piroe scoring on his debut against Charlton.

Malick Diouf exit could force another West Ham signing

West Ham’s plans could expand beyond four additions if Brentford complete a move for Diouf.

The Senegal international missed the Charlton squad and continues to attract Premier League interest, although no transfer agreement has been announced.

Angers defender Jacques Ekomie has been identified as one potential replacement, but Wrexham and Hamburg are also interested.

West Ham’s financial position has already increased the pressure to balance player sales against their promotion ambitions.

Whether all four priority positions are addressed could therefore depend on the timing and value of any departures before September 1.
