West Ham could recall Keiber Lamadrid for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup trip to Southampton, but Tomáš Souček remains unavailable because of the ankle injury he suffered at the World Cup.
Southampton’s official match preview suggests Lamadrid could return to the starting XI after appearing on the bench for Saturday’s defeat by Charlton.
The Venezuela international was an unused substitute in that match, having previously missed West Ham’s opening league fixture at Burnley.
West Ham had confirmed before the Burnley game that Lamadrid suffered a knock during their pre-season draw with Magdeburg.
That injury also ruled him out of the 3-1 first-round victory over Portsmouth, but his return to the matchday squad offers Nuno Espírito Santo another attacking option at St Mary’s.
Keiber Lamadrid offers West Ham another Southampton option
With the Southampton tie arriving just three days after the Charlton defeat, Nuno could make changes as West Ham look to progress to the third round.
Souček’s absence removes an experienced midfield option, having sustained ankle ligament damage while representing Czechia at the World Cup.
James Ward-Prowse could make his first start against his former club, while recent signing Arne Engels provides another alternative in midfield.
ExWHUEmployee has also suggested Soungoutou Magassa could feature as he works towards full fitness, although his involvement has not been confirmed.
Southampton, meanwhile, hope Caspar Jander could return this week, with Tuesday’s match a possible opportunity for the midfielder.
Former West Ham striker Divin Mubama could also face his old club after scoring during Southampton’s weekend victory over Stoke.
Kick-off at St Mary’s is 7.45pm BST, with full television and viewing details available here.
