Joel Piroe completes West Ham medical as transfer reaches final stage

Joel Piroe has reportedly completed his West Ham United medical, leaving only the final signature required before his move from Leeds United can be completed.

West Ham have moved quickly to secure one of Nuno Espírito Santo’s leading striker targets after initially exploring the 27-year-old as an alternative to Troy Parrott.

Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof now reports that Piroe has completed his West Ham medical, adding that only the signature is missing before the transfer becomes a done deal.

It represents another significant progression after Leeds granted Piroe permission to travel to London for his medical on Monday.

West Ham are closing in on Piroe through an initial loan agreement containing an obligation to make the move permanent if Nuno guides the club back to the Premier League.

The Hammers had already reached personal terms with the striker before accelerating discussions with Leeds.

ReadWestHam reported on Monday that Piroe was set to undergo his medical, marking a rapid change from the exploratory interest which had emerged only a day earlier.

The medical has now been completed successfully, according to Blaauwhof, putting West Ham on the verge of adding another proven Championship goalscorer to Nuno’s squad.

Piroe scored 19 league goals as Leeds won promotion from the Championship in 2024/25 and has 73 goals across his Championship career.

His record at this level was a key reason behind West Ham’s pursuit, with ReadWestHam examining why Piroe could be ideally suited to Nuno’s promotion challenge earlier on Tuesday.

Nuno had publicly called for more attacking options following the opening 2-2 draw against Burnley.

Pablo Felipe has subsequently emerged as a doubt for Saturday’s clash with Charlton Athletic because of a calf injury, increasing the importance of strengthening West Ham’s forward options.

Piroe now appears extremely close to becoming that reinforcement.

Unless there is an unexpected late complication, the final signature is all that reportedly remains before West Ham can complete one of their biggest attacking moves of the summer.
