Manor Solomon makes telling West Ham admission after Burnley heartbreak

Manor Solomon has admitted to “a mixture of emotions” after scoring his first competitive West Ham United goal only for the Hammers to surrender a two-goal lead in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Burnley.

Solomon looked to have secured a winning start to West Ham’s Championship campaign when he made it 2-0 at Turf Moor in the 72nd minute.

Instead, Burnley struck twice during the closing stages to rescue a point and leave Solomon unable to fully enjoy his landmark moment.

Manor Solomon admits mixed West Ham emotions

Speaking to West Ham’s official website after the game, Solomon summed up the afternoon as “a mixture of emotions”.

That reaction is understandable.

The winger had been handed a start by Nuno Espírito Santo and rewarded the manager’s faith by finishing West Ham’s second goal after excellent work from Mohamadou Kanté.

It should have been the moment which settled the contest.

Instead, West Ham allowed Burnley back into the game during a difficult final period.

Zian Flemming reduced the deficit from the penalty spot before striking again in stoppage time to complete the comeback.

Solomon therefore left Turf Moor with his first West Ham goal but without the three points which appeared almost certain when he found the net.

Solomon makes his case to Nuno

The personal significance of Solomon’s performance should not be overlooked.

West Ham have plenty of competition for attacking places, but producing a goal when given a starting opportunity is exactly the response Nuno will want from his wide players.

Solomon’s direct running also provided West Ham with another route towards goal alongside captain Jarrod Bowen.

His display becomes particularly interesting when viewed against the expectations surrounding West Ham this season.

ReadWestHam reported that Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg had already identified West Ham as one of the Championship’s major promotion threats, placing immediate pressure on Nuno’s side to deliver.

Sunday ultimately provided both encouragement and frustration.

Solomon took his opportunity.

West Ham did not.

For the winger, the next challenge is ensuring his first competitive goal becomes the beginning of a sustained run in Nuno’s starting side rather than simply one positive moment from a disappointing afternoon.
