West Ham United are now discussing a permanent deal for Reiss Nelson after initially exploring a loan move for the Arsenal winger. The latest Reiss Nelson West Ham transfer development suggests talks are progressing, although there are conflicting reports over how advanced an agreement really is.
ReadWestHam reported on Tuesday that Nelson’s move was claimed to be around 90 per cent complete, with personal terms said to have been agreed and West Ham initially looking at a loan arrangement.
Fresh reporting has now provided a significant update on the proposed structure of the deal.
Reiss Nelson West Ham talks turn towards permanent deal
Standard Sport reports that Arsenal and West Ham are in talks over Nelson, with the Gunners encouraging the Hammers after being approached about his availability.
Arsenal would prefer to sell the 26-year-old permanently this summer rather than sanction another loan, with Nelson entering the final year of his contract.
That would represent a change from West Ham’s initial approach, with the Hammers previously exploring a temporary deal.
There is, however, an important difference between the latest reports.
Tuesday’s claim suggested personal terms had already been agreed, but the Standard says personal terms have not yet been discussed and Nelson is still considering whether he would be willing to drop into the Championship.
Benfica are also credited with interest, increasing the pressure on West Ham to convince Nelson that east London is the right destination.
Nuno Espírito Santo is looking for another wide attacker despite Manor Solomon’s arrival, and Nelson would bring substantial Premier League experience to a squad targeting immediate promotion.
West Ham’s interest is clearly serious.
The remaining questions are now whether the clubs can agree the terms of a permanent transfer and whether Nelson can be persuaded to make the move.
