West Ham United are reportedly braced for another Brentford offer for El Hadji Malick Diouf, but the Hammers remain determined to keep the attacking full-back this summer.
Brentford have already tested West Ham’s resolve with an opening bid for the Senegal international. That approach was rejected, with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side making it clear they did not want to sell one of last season’s standout performers.
A fresh update from West Ham Central says another approach could now arrive from Brentford. West Ham, though, continue to hold a firm position over the 21-year-old.
Malick Diouf remains central to West Ham plans
Diouf enjoyed an impressive first season in English football after arriving from Slavia Prague.
The left-back registered five assists across 32 Premier League appearances and quickly became one of West Ham’s most dangerous attacking outlets. His pace and delivery from wide areas gave the Hammers a regular threat down the left.
Brentford’s opening offer reportedly fell well below the level required to tempt West Ham into negotiations. TalkSPORT reported that the club were under no financial pressure to sell after raising significant funds through other departures this summer.
That gives West Ham a strong position if Brentford return.
Nuno is already overseeing significant changes elsewhere in his defence. ReadWestHam reported earlier today that Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jean-Clair Todibo remain facing uncertain futures, after both missed the Carabao Cup victory over Portsmouth.
Allowing Diouf to leave as well would remove another established option at a time when West Ham are trying to build a squad capable of winning immediate promotion.
Ollie Scarles offers another option on the left, but Diouf’s attacking production and top-flight experience make him particularly valuable for a Championship campaign in which West Ham are likely to spend long periods on the front foot.
Brentford may decide to test West Ham again before the window closes.
Unless the next offer represents a major change from the first, however, the Hammers appear ready to stand firm.
