West Ham handed Todibo transfer boost after £35m Marseille development

Jean-Clair Todibo in action for West Ham

West Ham have received a potential Jean-Clair Todibo transfer boost as Marseille work towards two significant defensive departures.

The Ligue 1 club have been interested in bringing Todibo back to France, but financial restrictions have made a deal difficult. That situation could now begin to change.

Marseille have been under pressure to raise money and reduce their wage bill before making further additions.

However, Facundo Medina is now closing in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen, while former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd is also attracting concrete interest from Real Sociedad.

Hammers News reports that those developments could provide Marseille with both the funds and squad space required to pursue Todibo. The Frenchman remains available as West Ham continue reshaping Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.

Jean-Clair Todibo transfer could become easier for Marseille

Foot Mercato reports that Marseille have agreed a €25million package with Bayer Leverkusen for Medina, with the Argentina defender expected to sign a five-year contract.

Aguerd could follow him out of the Stade Vélodrome.

Real Sociedad have already submitted an offer and agreed a five-year contract with the Morocco international. Marseille rejected the initial proposal, but negotiations are continuing as they seek a higher fee.

Losing both defenders would leave Marseille needing reinforcements at centre-back while simultaneously improving their financial position.

That could be significant for West Ham.

ReadWestHam recently covered the growing transfer race for Todibo and the possibility of a permanent summer exit.

There is still no guarantee Marseille will make an acceptable offer, and West Ham appear unwilling to sanction another temporary departure.

But the Jean-Clair Todibo transfer picture has shifted. A club already interested in the defender could soon have a clearer need for him and considerably more room to finance a deal.
