Bamba Dieng to West Ham has taken a significant step forward after the Hammers reportedly opened discussions with the free-agent striker.
The Senegal international is also said to view a move to the London Stadium as one of his most attractive options as Nuno Espírito Santo looks to strengthen his attack.
Dieng was offered to West Ham earlier in the summer following his departure from Lorient, but the club had not advanced beyond considering the opportunity.
TEAMtalk reports that Dieng has held discussions with West Ham, with sources close to the 26-year-old indicating that he would be interested in joining the Hammers.
The Senegal forward is available without a transfer fee after leaving Lorient and has also attracted interest from clubs in France, Spain and Turkey.
Bamba Dieng to West Ham could form part of double striker plan
Nuno appears determined to add greater competition to his forward line before the transfer window closes.
TEAMtalk says the West Ham boss would ideally like two additional forwards, with discussions also continuing over AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott.
ReadWestHam reported on Thursday that West Ham are making a major push to sign Parrott, who scored more than 30 goals last season and is open to returning to English football.
Dieng would represent a considerably cheaper addition.
The former Marseille striker scored 15 goals across all competitions for Lorient last season, including 10 in Ligue 1, before becoming a free agent.
There is currently no suggestion that West Ham have reached an agreement over personal terms.
However, Bamba Dieng to West Ham has now moved beyond the stage of the player simply being offered to the club.
With talks taking place and Dieng reportedly attracted by the opportunity, the Hammers have another realistic option as Nuno attempts to complete his attack.
