West Ham United could be preparing for a late burst of transfer business, with four players now emerging as the leading candidates to strengthen Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.
The Hammers have endured a slow summer for arrivals despite losing several senior players, but the picture is beginning to change with the Championship season approaching.
According to Claret & Hugh, Joel Veltman, Troy Parrott, Manor Solomon and Arne Engels are now the four names most prominently linked with moves to east London. The potential deals could involve around £75million in transfer fees if West Ham successfully land all four.
West Ham transfer plans beginning to take shape
Veltman appears closest to arriving. The experienced defender has reportedly completed his medical after leaving Brighton and would add cover at both centre-back and right-back.
Attention is also turning towards Parrott. ReadWestHam reported on Thursday morning that talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook says West Ham are making a “big play” for the AZ Alkmaar striker after his 31-goal campaign last season.
Solomon remains another option as Nuno searches for greater width following Crysencio Summerville’s departure. The Tottenham winger has proven Championship pedigree after producing 10 goals and 12 assists during Leeds United’s promotion-winning campaign.
Engels would address a different need. West Ham continue to be linked with the Celtic midfielder, although the Scottish champions are reportedly seeking around £25m before considering a sale.
There is no guarantee all four moves will be completed, and negotiations remain at different stages.
However, the shortlist offers a clearer picture of how West Ham intend to rebuild. A defender, central midfielder, winger and striker would address four obvious areas of Nuno’s squad as the Hammers prepare for a season in which immediate promotion is the priority.
