West Ham have informed the London Stadium operator that David Sullivan is expected to attend matches this season despite being advised to stay away.
The latest development comes just days before Saturday’s Carabao Cup tie against Portsmouth.
Sullivan stepped down as joint-chairman and director in June following the impending publication of historical allegations which he strongly denies.
However, the 77-year-old remains a significant shareholder in West Ham.
ReadWestHam reported at the time that Sullivan had resigned from his boardroom positions with immediate effect, while day-to-day operations continued under the club’s remaining leadership structure.
David Sullivan West Ham attendance position emerges
The recommendation relates to concerns over possible demonstrations and anti-social behaviour from supporters following a joint Times and BBC Panorama investigation.
Sullivan strongly denies the allegations made against him.
The stadium operator has also requested advance notice whenever Sullivan intends to attend so additional safety and operational measures can be arranged.
West Ham have nevertheless told the operator that Sullivan is expected to continue attending matches at the London Stadium.
The club are understood to be willing to work alongside stadium officials regarding the necessary arrangements.
Saturday’s Carabao Cup first-round tie against Portsmouth is West Ham’s first competitive home fixture of the season and could therefore be the first occasion on which the new arrangement is tested.
Sullivan no longer holds an executive position at the club, but his continued presence at matches would underline that his connection with West Ham has not disappeared completely.
