West Ham United are reportedly on the verge of signing Adam Webster, with a deal for the experienced centre-back now described as almost complete.
The Hammers have been tracking Webster since he became a free agent following his departure from Brighton at the end of last season.
According to ExWHUEmployee, the move is now “almost an official deal”, suggesting West Ham are closing in on another addition ahead of the new Championship campaign.
Webster has been on the club’s radar for several weeks. The West Ham Way previously reported that the 31-year-old was among the free-agent centre-backs being considered, with his experience and leadership viewed as attractive qualities.
Adam Webster could strengthen West Ham defence
Webster would arrive with extensive experience across both the Premier League and Championship.
He spent seven years at Brighton after joining from Bristol City in 2019, although injuries severely restricted his involvement during his final season on the south coast.
West Ham have been looking to reinforce Nuno Espírito Santo’s defence throughout the summer.
The club had also agreed a deal in principle for Axel Disasi, but the Chelsea defender has yet to make a final decision over his future. ReadWestHam reported on Monday that Crystal Palace had subsequently entered the race for the Frenchman.
Webster could therefore give Nuno another experienced option without requiring West Ham to pay a transfer fee.
His previous Championship experience could also prove valuable as the Hammers target an immediate return to the Premier League.
Formal confirmation is still required, but the latest update suggests Webster is now close to becoming a West Ham player.
