West Ham expected to progress deal for £25m Celtic star

West Ham United are preparing an improved offer for Arne Engels after seeing two bids rejected by Celtic. The Arne Engels West Ham transfer is nevertheless expected to progress, with personal terms already at an advanced stage.

The Daily Record reports that Celtic are preparing for Engels to leave Parkhead. West Ham are therefore expected to return with a stronger proposal in the coming days.

Celtic have already rejected two West Ham offers. Both proposals fell well below the Scottish champions’ valuation.

The Hoops rejected a package worth £20million plus £5m in bonuses from Nottingham Forest earlier this year. As a result, they are looking for similar money before allowing Engels to leave.

Arne Engels West Ham transfer expected to progress

Crucially, West Ham appear to have made progress with the player.

The latest report says Engels is already well down the line over personal terms. Therefore, an agreement between the clubs now appears to be the main obstacle.

This is a clear progression from Friday.

ReadWestHam reported that Celtic rejected West Ham’s opening Engels bid after Martin O’Neill said the proposal did not “remotely” meet Celtic’s valuation.

However, West Ham have an increasing need to strengthen midfield.

Mateus Fernandes has joined Tottenham, while Freddie Potts is heading towards Club Brugge. In addition, Tomas Soucek faces a spell out of the team.

ReadWestHam analysed on Sunday why losing Potts creates another major midfield question for Nuno Espírito Santo. Engels would immediately help fill that growing gap.

The 22-year-old can operate as a number eight or deeper in midfield.

West Ham have tracked him throughout the summer. Moreover, their recruitment team believe his energy and technical quality suit Nuno’s rebuild.

No agreement with Celtic has been reached yet.

However, after two rejected bids, West Ham now appear ready to test Celtic again. The next offer could decide whether Engels finally moves to the London Stadium.
