Amanda Staveley has fuelled speculation over the future of the West next football investment would include a major property element. Her consortium has provisionally agreed to buy the Gold family’s 25.1 per cent stake in the club.
The deal has not yet been completed. ReadWestHam reported that Daniel Kretinsky could still intervene through his existing pre-emption rights, with the process expected to take around two months.
However, Staveley’s latest comments have offered an early indication of how ambitious her plans could eventually become.
Staveley drops West Ham London Stadium hint
Speaking on Bloomberg’s Leaders with Francine Lacqua before the West Ham agreement emerged, Staveley discussed what she wants from her next project in English football.
“We won’t just do a football-led,” she said, before explaining that she sees opportunities to create additional value through development.
Those comments will inevitably bring the London Stadium into focus. West Ham rent the former Olympic venue rather than owning it, while its financial position continues to attract scrutiny.
City AM reported in July that the stadium operator expects an operating loss of around £19million for 2025/26. West Ham’s relegation has also reduced the rent paid by the club this season.
There is currently no confirmed plan from Staveley to buy, rebuild or redevelop the stadium. Any suggestion of major changes therefore remains speculative at this stage.
Her comments are still significant given the scale of the proposed investment. Reports suggest the consortium’s £150million agreement for the Gold stake values West Ham at around £600million.
The immediate question remains whether Staveley completes the deal at all. If she does, however, her own comments suggest her ambitions may extend beyond simply owning a stake in the football club.
