West Ham agree €12m deal to sell academy star

West Ham United have reached a full agreement with Club Brugge for Freddie Potts.

The transfer is now close to completion, with the midfielder expected to undergo his medical on Saturday afternoon.

Club Brugge will pay a package worth €12million for the 22-year-old, who has already approved the move to Belgium.

Sacha Tavolieri reports that Potts is due to arrive at the Blauw-Zwart training camp on Saturday afternoon to complete his medical.

The latest development represents significant progress from earlier in the day, when Club Brugge were described as being in advanced negotiations with West Ham.

Potts had already given the green light to the move, with the Belgian club identifying him as their priority replacement for Raphael Onyedika.

Freddie Potts Club Brugge transfer close to completion

Potts’ departure would represent a surprising change following his comments earlier in pre-season.

The academy graduate had publicly stated that he wanted to establish himself in Nuno Espírito Santo’s team during the Championship campaign.

ReadWestHam previously reported that Potts wanted to become a West Ham first-team regular after returning from successful loan spells with Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth.

He made 22 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season, including 12 starts, and appeared well placed to receive further opportunities following relegation.

Club Brugge can offer Potts European football and appear prepared to give him an important first-team role.

The €12m package would also provide West Ham with another substantial outgoing fee as the club attempt to reshape Nuno’s squad.

Unless complications emerge during the medical, the Freddie Potts Club Brugge transfer now appears to be entering its final stages.
