Axel Disasi’s transfer to West Ham remains in doubt despite reports that the Hammers and Chelsea have broadly agreed a deal worth around £25million.
West Ham have remained in contact with Chelsea after the France international impressed during his loan spell at the London Stadium last season.
However, Disasi is currently reluctant to drop into the Championship following West Ham’s relegation. He has not completely rejected a return, but his preference creates a major obstacle for Nuno Espírito Santo.
Axel Disasi West Ham transfer could drag on
Chelsea want to sell Disasi permanently after leaving him outside Xabi Alonso’s plans. The Blues have set an asking price of approximately £25million, while West Ham are understood to have discussed terms around that figure.
The agreement between the clubs will mean little unless West Ham can convince the defender to return.
Disasi needed significant persuasion before accepting his loan move in February. The task is now harder because West Ham cannot offer immediate Premier League football.
Roma and AC Milan have also been linked with the 28-year-old. Crystal Palace have asked about his situation while rebuilding their defence following Maxence Lacroix’s move to Chelsea.
West Ham may therefore need to wait until later in the window. Disasi could reconsider if his preferred top-flight opportunities fail to produce firm offers.
Nuno would welcome back a defender who already understands his system and demonstrated commitment during the relegation battle. However, the club cannot pause its defensive recruitment indefinitely.
ReadWestHam previously reported that West Ham had made contact to re-sign Disasi, but his stance on Championship football continues to prevent meaningful progress.
The Axel Disasi West Ham transfer remains possible rather than likely. West Ham must either change the player’s mind or move quickly towards an alternative centre-back.
