West Ham interest in Matteo Cancellieri remains active as Nuno Espírito Santo considers adding another winger to his squad.
The Lazio attacker is entering the final year of his contract, although Celtic are expected to provide competition.
ExWHUEmployee first named Cancellieri among West Ham’s wide targets in June. The Hammers are keeping track of the 24-year-old, but no offer or direct negotiations with Lazio have been reported. The West Ham Way says Cancellieri has attracted attention from West Ham.
West Ham interest in Matteo Cancellieri explained
Cancellieri spent last season with Lazio after previous loan spells at Empoli and Parma. The left-footed winger recorded four goals and two assists across 30 Serie A appearances, operating mainly from the right side of the attack.
His contract expires in June 2027, which could leave Lazio open to a permanent sale rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer. Celtic are expected to increase their interest, while Torino, Parma, Fiorentina and Olympiakos have also been linked.
West Ham’s need for another wide player has increased following Crysencio Summerville’s departure. ReadWestHam reported on Tuesday that the club have also held talks with Simon Adingra’s representatives, with Nuno lacking a natural senior option on the left.
Cancellieri would offer versatility because he can play on either flank or provide cover through the middle. However, his modest scoring record suggests he would arrive as a squad option rather than the established attacking leader West Ham still require.
Keeping Jarrod Bowen has reportedly reduced the urgency surrounding a right-sided addition. West Ham interest in Matteo Cancellieri therefore remains at the monitoring stage, with Celtic potentially better placed to make the first formal move.
